“Every Second of Life Counts”

Risen Easter Sunday Church Website BannerThe past 6 days have been very challenging for our community here in upper East Tennessee. The student body of our local High School just lost one of their peers due to an automobile accident. The relentless hurt the parents must feel, the obvious lack of words coming from the mouths of other parents, students, and friends has been very real. When tragedy like this happens, there really is no true words of Comfort. Those that are Christians must look to Christ for Comfort and rely fully upon His Word.
As I look upon the hurt of young teenage students, the hurt upon the parents of all the teenagers touched, and a community pulling together to draw strength from one another; I am reminded of how precious life is, friendships are, and how very precious a relationship with Christ is!
We go through life so fast. We have so many plans and work so hard to make those plans come to pass. In the fast paced life that we live in, we forget the importance of fellowship, community, friendship, and the precious gift of life. I am reminded of James’s words: “13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” (James 4:13, 14)
As Humans, we have a very short time here on this earth. It may seem as if we have our whole life ahead of us, and that is true. But the one thing that we forget is, we don’t know how long that life is. We should evaluate every day of our life and insure that we tell others about Christ. Every friend that we have, every family member, and every acquaintance; share Christ and share the time we have with one another. We are not promised tomorrow, nor is the people that we love promised to us any particular time.
My prayer is that I may stop taking the time that I have for granted. I pray that I stop taking the lives I care the most about for granted. Lastly, I pray that as a Christian, I begin to value every minute of the day as a precious opportunity to learn more about Christ Jesus and share Him with those that don’t know Him! We must make “Every second of Life count.”
