“THE SOURCE OF HOLY SERVICE”

Romans 12:1 — “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God…”

Holy service to God begins with the mercies of God. Paul’s plea is rooted in everything that has been established before this moment. The word “therefore” connects the call to service with the doctrines of salvation that have already been revealed.

Those mercies include justification by faith, forgiveness of sins through the atonement of Christ, God working all things together for good, and His calling of people to Himself (SPROUL 2019). These mercies are the source of all true service to God.

Without these mercies, no one could serve God. There would be no standing, no access, and no ability. Service is not initiated by man but made possible by God’s mercy.

Because of these mercies, service becomes a response. It is not something we offer to earn favor, but something we render because mercy has already been given.

Call to Action
Do not waste the mercies of God. Let His mercy moves you to render your life in service to Him.
