“THE LOVE OF OUR HEAVENLY FATHER”

There are landmarks in our life that changes our course of living for the rest of our lives. For me, the greatest change outside of salvation, was the day each one of my boys was born. God has blessed me with three boys, two of them are now grown men, and one is with the Lord in Heaven. All three were and continue to be unique in their own way and the arrival of each one of them changed me in ways that words alone cannot describe.

The day my oldest son Bailey was born, I knew that I had a responsibility that could not be taken lightly. I had another mouth to feed, another body to clothe, and another person who was totally dependent upon me. I loved my parents, family, and wife. But the day my son was born and the day my next two sons were born, there was a love like no other that rose up within me. These were my boys. I wanted to provide for them, and teach them everything that I could teach them, and I had a desire to give them everything that they needed and also the things they desired too. No matter how hard I tried, I still failed them in many ways. How so? I am just a man that is filled with sinful flaws. My desire was there, but my sinful flesh was present too.

When Jesus teaches us about asking of Him for the things that we need and desire, He uses the relational love of an earthly father to His children. Jesus asks if a son asks his earthly father for a piece of bread, would that father give him a stone? If he asks him for fish to eat, would he give him a snake? Obviously, the answer is no! The earthly father loves his son and desires to give him his needs and desires.

If a sinful and carnal earthly father knows to give his son good things because of his love for him, how much more does our sinless and perfect father in heaven know to give us good things from heaven. This truly puts things into perspective when considering the love of our Heavenly Father. His love is greater for us than our love could ever be for our children. That must be an incredible love. This love is indescribable!

Matthew 7:9–11 “9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”
