“BUILDING IT WITH PARTNERS”

1 Corinthians 3:10 “According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.”

This text addresses the church in three distinct groups: Paul as the founding church planter of Corinth, the leaders and teachers who continue to build upon the work, and the members—the laity. The word laity comes from the Greek word, laos, meaning “the people” or “the people of God” (Strong, Greek Dictionary, 2001).

Paul says, “another buildeth thereon.” The Greek word for “another,” allos, means another of the same kind (Strong, Greek Dictionary, 2001). Paul references other men taking part in the building up of the church on the foundation he laid. He explains this further when he says, “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase” (1 Corinthians 3:6).

This principle applies to the life of a local church. For Strong Tower Baptist Church, the church I pastor, this includes Pastor Jody, our Deacons, and the men who faithfully teach and handle the Word of God. These men did not plant Strong Tower Baptist Church, but they are building upon the foundation that is already laid. No one builds the church alone—and no one can build a spiritual walk if they are absentee in the process.

The foundation for you to build a spiritual house upon is already in place, His name is Christ. Building up a Spiritual Life involves God’s Church, His under-shepherds, and His people. Our faith journey was never meant to be done alone! We need partners!
