“THE LIGHT OF THE SOUL”
The Bible clearly states that Christians are led by the Spirit. The first key aspect of this is illumination. What does illumination mean spiritually? Illumination—”Infusion of intellectual light; an enlightening of the understanding by knowledge, or the mind by spiritual light.” (Webster, 2025) Illumination is light. When born again, one receives illumination from the Holy Spirit, revealing sin and guiding towards Christ’s redemption.
The illumination of the Holy Spirit is exclusive to children of God. Not all who profess Christ are led by the Holy Spirit; this gift is reserved for those who truly possess Christ. Many people, including followers of false religions and theological cults, merely profess Christ with empty words.
The Holy Spirit enlightens the mind and soul of individuals through the process of regeneration. He provides guidance and leads the soul towards all truth, as stated in John 16:13. The truth that is revealed by the Holy Spirit comes from the Word of God, which is recognized as the definitive source of truth. As affirmed in John 17:17: “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
The work of the Holy Spirit commences by guiding individuals towards Christ and continues by enlightening their understanding of God’s word. It is important to note that those who have not experienced spiritual rebirth cannot comprehend or accept the word of God; this understanding is exclusive to born-again believers. This concept is elucidated by Paul in 1 Corinthians 2:14—16, which states: “14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”
As the saved children of God, we cannot allow the world/unsaved people to shape and mold our theology. They have no spiritual discernment! They are in total darkness within heart, mind, and soul to the things of God. There is no illumination. If you are born again, you have the Holy floodlight of Heaven inside your mind and soul. Utilize it to live your life on mission for Christ every day.
